Some arrangements for horses sold by Bonsai Run may include a bred mare confirmed in foal.  This may or may not be part of the Live Foal Guarantee.

A mare is considered Settled when confirmed by Ultrasound.  This term may be used when a breed-back is involved in a contract.  Once a mare is considered Settled and has left the Bonsai Run premises, our portion of said contract is then fulfilled and complete.

THE AGREEMENT

  1. $______________ shall be paid for this breeding.  A $250 booking fee, paid with return of this contract, will reserve space in this stallion’s book.  The balance of $___________ shall be paid on or before the date that the mare is delivered to Bonsai Run.

  2. Mare owner will be responsible for all veterinarian costs incurred by this mare during the course of this breeding period.  All veterinarian procedures will be discussed with the owner prior to scheduling.  Except in case of emergency, we will attempt to combine veterinarian farm calls to reduce the cost of the call to each owner.  All mares must have current rhino, flu, tetanus and strangles vaccinations prior to arriving.  A certificate of negative uterine culture is required on all mares that have been previously exposed to a stallion, whether or not that exposure resulted in conception.  These veterinarian services can be performed by our veterinarian, at owner’s costs, if so requested.

  3. Mare care shall be charged at the rate of $3.00 per day for dry mares, and $4.00 per day for mares with foal at side.  Standard care includes quality hay, stall, exercise paddock, and daily handling of foals (for wet mares).  Grain and vitamins provided by owner will be fed at no extra charge.  All boarding charges shall be paid before the mare is released to the owner.
  4. Bonsai Run will not be responsible for accident, sickness or death to the mare while on the premises for breeding.  All reasonable and prudent judgment will be exercised in the supervision of all horses on these premises, and all due caution will be taken to ensure safety of all animals.  Bonsai Run will not hold responsible any mare owner for accident or injury to the stallion.
  5. A mare is considered Settled when pregnancy is confirmed by Ultrasound.  When the mare is Settled, the breeding is fulfilled and Bonsai Run is not responsible for any loss of foal that may occur after such time.
  6. A breeder’s certificate will be issued to the registered owner of the mare at the time that all bills incurred related to this breeding are paid in full.

THE LIVE FOAL GUARANTEE OPTION

Bonsai Run offers a unique type of live foal guarantee.  There are several options you can choose from if this mating does not result in a live foal.  A foal is considered “live” if it stands and nurses.  Here is how it works:

All return breedings will be charged a $50 handling fee, plus daily mare care.

Option #1.       You may return this mare for another breeding if:

A.                 She does not settle during the course of this breeding season

B.                 She slips or aborts this foal

C.                 The foal does not live to stand and nurse

Option #2.       You may substitute another mare that you own or lease to breed to this stallion of:

A.                 This mare fails to produce a live foal as a result of two breeding seasons

B.                 Your veterinarian certifies that this mare is barren

C.                 This mare dies or becomes unable to conceive a foal

Option #3.       You may substitute another stallion offered by Bonsai Run if:

A.                 The stallion you have chosen dies or becomes unable to breed a mare before your mare produces a live foal

B.                 You have met the requirements for Option #2 and think that the substitute are will better cross with a different stallion

C.                 You want to try your mare with another stallion before you determine her unable to be settled.

AND    you pay the difference in the stud fee if the substitute stallion’s advertised fee is higher than the original stallion’s.  (Sorry, we will not refund money if the fee is lower.)

REMEMBER THE 90 DAY RULE

When changing stallions for any mare for any reason, remember AMHA’s 90 day rule which states that no mare may be exposed to two different stallions within 90 days of each other.

BONSAI RUN SHOW INCENTIVE

How does this work?  It’s easy!  Just send us a “publication quality” picture of your foal from this breeding winning his/her first ribbon at a recognized AMHA or AMHR show, and we will send you $100!  The foal can be any age, and the ribbon can be from any placing!  All pictures become the property of Bonsai Run, and may be used in future advertising.
